Growth ultrathin of layers Au

The aim of this thesis is to study growth of ultrathin gold layers prepared by MBE (Molecular beam epitaxy) in UHV conditions. Differently modified sillicon served as a substrate and depositions were done at different temperatures of a substrate. Samples were analyzed by ToF LEIS for thickness, morfology was examined by SEM and AFM. X-ray photoelectron spectra were taken for chemical analysis. Gathered data together with their evaluation contribute to description and understanding of some processes during deposition and subsequent exposure of the sample to high temperatures. Experimental data and conslusions also prowide basis for further experiments and development of potential applications.

The concept of "Responsibility to Protect" and the international community. The case of Sudan

The thesis "Concept Responsibility to Protect Within International Community: Sudan Case Study" focuses on the R2P concept and its implications since its approval at the World Summit in 2005. The theoretical part of the thesis explains the R2P concept, its constitution, the three pillars and their main principles, and categories of crimes on which the concept can be applied. This section includes an analysis of attitudes, which the key international actors adopted towards the R2P. The last chapter of the theoretical part examines the main problems, challenges and difficulties of the concept which could the international community face when implementing the concept. The practical part of this thesis relates to the conflict in Darfur. Its first chapter deals with the evolution of tensions in Sudan, which had affected the current conflict. The second chapter focuses on the present conflict since its beginning in 2003, including the debate about the possibility of potential genocide committed by the Sudanese government. The involvement of the key international actors (the UNSC and AU) in the conflict is discussed in this part as well. Finally, the last part interconnects the concept through the three pillars with the conflict and; it evaluates functioning of the R2P in the case of Sudan. The evaluation...

Regional and sub-regional organizations and peacekeeping in Africa

The thesis deals with evaluation of missions lead by regional and sub-regional organizations in Africa. The cases for the study are the ECOMICI mission in Ivory Coast lead by the ECOWAS and the AMIS mission lead by the AU. The regional peacekeeping operations developed mainly the during the 1990's. Peacekeeping is the dynamic field and the evaluation of outcomes is important for future missions. The evaluation framework used fot this study was designed by Diehl and Druckman and described in their book The evaluation of peace operations. The thesis is structured into the four main parts, In hte first part of the study there is an introduction into the field of peace operation, the regional organisations and their security frameworks and also the peacekeeping evaluation field. In the second part the analytic framework for the evaluation is described, the third part deals with the evalution of the two missions, ECOMICI and AMIS and last part is devoted to conclusions. By analysing these two operations we are able to conclude if the regional organisations are able to deploy peacekeeping missions, if they are successful and what are the main challenges and advantages for the regional peacekeeping. RNDr. Václav Nehasil, Dr., Department of Surface and Plasma Science Abstract: Dissertation thesis is focused on the study of two catalytic systems on the basis of cerium oxide-metal. The systems were characterized by various methods of surface analysis. The first part of the work concerns influence of the preparation parameters on the character of gold nanoparticles deposited onto the sputtered cerium oxide layers from a solution. Catalytic activity of prepared Au/CeOx/(C)/Si systems, containing particles with the mean sizes of 4- 10 nm, was tested toward CO oxidation at atmospheric pressure. The results show that with increasing amount of gold present on the samples, also the productivity of CO2 during the reactions grows. The work is further focused on the preparation of an inverse model CeOx/Pt(111) system. On this system, adsorption of methanol at low temeperatures and its decomposition during a heating was studied.
